This series was captured in the spring of 2022. After reading reports about Fan Yusu 范雨素, I developed a strong curiosity about Picun Village and couldn't resist exploring it myself. It is difficult to imagine that in the Chaoyang District of Beijing, there exists such an urban village, home to the city's lowest-tier migrant workers, who might be delivery drivers, cleaners, or repairmen, among others. In 2002, this group of "new workers" established "Home of the Workers工友之家” where they built the New Workers' Theater, a library, a museum of working culture and arts, and the Tongxin Experimental School for their children, all within a small courtyard (depicted in the black and white photos). They also nurtured a literary group and the New Workers' Art Troupe, among other clubs. The literary group, consisting of ordinary workers, continues to publish "Picun Literature皮村文学" to this day. However, the "Home of the Workers工友之家” courtyard faces relocation due to unpaid rent.
