Alxa, 2022
Here lies a remote township in the Alxa League of Inner Mongolia (this administrative unit is referred to as "Sumu" in Inner Mongolia), a place where my maternal grandmother once lived in her youth. Grazing fields, stone quarries, flocks of sheep, and temples coexist harmoniously, with prehistoric rock paintings from ancient civilizations discoverable on the nearby Gobi Desert. I recall wandering off here at the age of three, and being returned to my grandmother's home by a Lama at the temple gate. More than two decades later, my grandmother's home has long since been leveled, but revisiting this place still stirs faint recollections of the past.
